Obscurity
Light increases the potential for oxidation-reduction reactions in wine, which abnormally accelerates the ageing process. That is why most wines to be aged are sold in dark glass bottles. Yet this precaution does not suffice to filter all ultraviolet ray. A true ageing wine cellar should have a solid door to ensure a total obscurity. If cellars with glass doors are used, the glass must be treated with an effective anti-UV protection. Interior lights, like the ones in refrigerators, as well as neon lights should be absolutely avoided.
